I Have Questions

Every now and again I come across a passage that raises questions. Sometimes I blog about them; other times I write a devotion to speculate. But every now and again, I come up with a question that really has no answer. I thought maybe you would like to speculate. So here they are (or at least one for now–I’ll come back when I have more)

23 During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.
Exodus 2:23-25

  1. Did the Israelites cry out to God, or did God hear them and deliver them because of his promise to their ancestors?
