A Shepherd’s Memory Christmas Play

Description

A Shepherd’s Memory Christmas Play features Levi, a forty-something shepherd. When this adult shepherd hears the news of the risen Christ, he remembers seeing a remarkable baby thirty years earlier and shares the story of his trip to Bethlehem to see what the angels were talking about.  As the shepherd shares his memory, the story comes to life around them.

One adult and and seven to nine children can easily perform this 15-25 minute Christmas Play play. And there’s plenty of room for extras. Each child has 2 – 6 lines, and all the parts but two can be cast female or male (Mary and Joseph are the only two gender specific parts).

CAST

Levi — (a forty something shepherd)
Aaron – One of three 8-12 year old shepherds – about 6 lines
Isaiah – One of three 8-12 year old shepherds – about 5 lines
Eli – (optional – you can have just 2 shepherds) – One of three 8-12 year old shepherds – about 4 lines – His lines are assigned to the other shepherds if you elect not to use this part.
Joseph – Mary’s husband – about 7 lines (the only part that must be male)
Mary – Jesus’ Mother – 3 lines (the only part that must be female)
Innkeepers(s) – Boy or Girl – 6 lines (Optionally written for 2 children but may be combined for a smaller cast.
Angel– Any boy or girl – 2 lines
Choir of Angels– the rest of your younger girls (could be boys) – 1 line repeated all together
Shepherds– the rest of your younger boys (or girls) – no lines, but some pantomime to go along with the narration
Wise Men – (optional) – if you have a lot of extra kids, several of them can be wise men/women – no lines, just pantomime.
